I still didn't find enough time to work on my handicraft, I've just got back from a trip abroad (again) and currently I'm trying to push myself into everyday life. I travel too often to go in routine, my entire life is "on suitcases" and I didn't find that kind of place I would call home in 100%. Meanwhile I wish all my readers Happy New Year 2013!! Stay tuned!</div>

How to express respect for people who live together for 50 years already? I've been asked by my grandmother to make a nicely-looking congratulation card for such occassion. Her friend's friends are 50 years married next month. Considering the knowledge about names of each wedding anniversary that exist in world's tradition I decided to make a print on a sheet of golden paper, because 50-year anniversary is a golden one. I also wanted this card to be in form of a decorative scroll which is nicer than a typical folded A5 format and there's more space on a rolled A4 to write something from the heart, there's also more space for using stylish typography, ornaments and underprints.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NFcqTfRIL1E/UA_kY1ipFPI/AAAAAAAAATo/3rFFm7F5GUY/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_card1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="259" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NFcqTfRIL1E/UA_kY1ipFPI/AAAAAAAAATo/3rFFm7F5GUY/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_card1.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
I've printed my text on the golden piece of A4 paper, rolled it and added few things: first I took an ecru piece of vat paper (handmade paper) and a piece of grey linen. I wrapped it around the scroll and tied it all with a golden-brown ribbon.<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aIOMTjQfG7o/UA_k6WjAm-I/AAAAAAAAATw/OGAmfIQ_uEc/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_card2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aIOMTjQfG7o/UA_k6WjAm-I/AAAAAAAAATw/OGAmfIQ_uEc/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_card2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then I took needle and thread to sew some beads on the linen. I chose some golden-brown, brown and yellow beads that suited the rest of my design. The last part was printing a little ticket with names on the same vat (handmade) ecru paper, cutting it out, puncturing it, threading a straw ribbon and attaching it to my scroll. Looks pretty well :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LUbK05K6A64/UA_k8Y4D2_I/AAAAAAAAAT4/BYtJY5kBof4/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_card3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LUbK05K6A64/UA_k8Y4D2_I/AAAAAAAAAT4/BYtJY5kBof4/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_card3.png" width="400" /></a></div>

I've used this pattern once already to decorate two cobalt-blue wine bottles [see here: <i><a href="http://artarsenic.blogspot.com/2011/08/cobalt-blue-wine.html" target="_blank">Cobalt-blue wine</a></i>] and I had some of this pattern left for later, so I used it for a garden teapot. This teapot was red and old hence it needed a proper renewal:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LuwTTOT-F3s/UBAXWlciJhI/AAAAAAAAAVA/bo6mtg4e_tc/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_teapot1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LuwTTOT-F3s/UBAXWlciJhI/AAAAAAAAAVA/bo6mtg4e_tc/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_teapot1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
I've painted red parts and some of black parts of the teapot white (white is always good ;)) and I scrubbed the paint on the edges. Now it has this vintage shabby-chic look like it was very old (in fact it's only 20 this year ;))...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ng5wiLhVltQ/UBAXhu4FWUI/AAAAAAAAAVs/1PjebB28PE4/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_teapot3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ng5wiLhVltQ/UBAXhu4FWUI/AAAAAAAAAVs/1PjebB28PE4/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_teapot3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And a close-up of this lovely filigree motive:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H3ojHbRW80Q/UBAXf9WAB7I/AAAAAAAAAVk/Et18IhqaQhs/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_teapot2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H3ojHbRW80Q/UBAXf9WAB7I/AAAAAAAAAVk/Et18IhqaQhs/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_teapot2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As teapot or watering can it'll be used in our garden now :) I think it fits to the environment perfectly ;)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b_pTb6Qvf1Y/UBAXaQnFaWI/AAAAAAAAAVM/7_2Yu90RdZs/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_garden.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b_pTb6Qvf1Y/UBAXaQnFaWI/AAAAAAAAAVM/7_2Yu90RdZs/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_garden.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is the time for a proper painted tea-box for my own kitchen. The top - like my previous ones - is conpletely painted with acrylics. Sides of this box are made with <i>decoupage </i>technique. I was inspired by one of Alphonse Mucha's litograph and by <a href="http://bouquiniste.deviantart.com/" target="_blank"><i>bouqiniste</i></a>'s<i> </i>self-portrait she painted using ink pastel and color pencil. I sketched it on the box and painted it by myself changing color pallete to blue. I used more vivid acrylics for the head and jewelry-piece...</div>

In past weekend my husband - Jorund (Jurriaan) de Jongh Jorgensen - was presenting his black and white photography during an official city exhibition. It was a multimedia presentation on LCD screen with slideshow, very widely appreciated by visitors. It also opened few new connections to great people interrested in classic artistic black and white photography. Jor also got a great acclaim from the City Hall and a proposal of buying his photos for a new edition of city postcards :)</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've designed his exhibition-poster, which looks like this:</div>

Spring is in the air... Still, it's cold outside, even if it's already April. My wisteria plant has survived the winter and got few more branches with buds - good news! Two or three years more and it should bloom purple. It's in the first place of my <i>to photograph</i> list. Still, few weeks more for it to get leaves... My beautiful hortensia didn't have such luck unfortunately but - by all means - I'll get a new one!</div>

By now I've got few warm impressions of my surrounding just to keep you positive:</div>

Another part of my <i>lost-and-found</i> photos I've made few years ago. That time I was living in the Netherlands and Poland and got first ideas about this blog - unfortunately I didn't have time to make it then. Now it's high time for those creations to be presented :) They perfectly show my fondness to vintage and retro photography and their kinds (warm photo filters, cherry light flash, old lenses), therefore they are very sentimental - a stop motion impression :)<br />

The wind reaches 100 km/h this evening. Not quite a weather I like. My husband has lit the fireplace and we're trying to stay warm. That's why I started to browse photos I've made in our garden and on the meadow in summer. I remember I was about to create some kind of a vintage collection of them. Well, I forgot about them and now I found the folder. Here are just few of them- to remind you summer:<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AQ7AYMkZljw/T0kPJQ0C2dI/AAAAAAAAAK8/dUiTa-371FI/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_hortensia.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AQ7AYMkZljw/T0kPJQ0C2dI/AAAAAAAAAK8/dUiTa-371FI/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_hortensia.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713114254102682066" border="0" /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a name='more'></a><br />Hortensias and daisies (that didn't survive this winter for sure):</div><br /></div><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tvXgJUe1LmQ/T0kPJuJBhfI/AAAAAAAAALE/y5vpAXddYhA/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_daisy.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tvXgJUe1LmQ/T0kPJuJBhfI/AAAAAAAAALE/y5vpAXddYhA/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_daisy.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713114261975303666" border="0" /></a><br />And bushes I love:<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DkbIQOrW08w/T0kPKCRkLnI/AAAAAAAAALs/7Vat1WCXKU0/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_berberis.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DkbIQOrW08w/T0kPKCRkLnI/AAAAAAAAALs/7Vat1WCXKU0/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_berberis.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713114267379838578" border="0" /></a><br />I use the opportunity to make photos on the meadow which is close to our house...<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mmxuDqKxZvo/T0kPJibVjII/AAAAAAAAALU/07DttTOjZro/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_field1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mmxuDqKxZvo/T0kPJibVjII/AAAAAAAAALU/07DttTOjZro/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_field1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713114258830888066" border="0" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ErohBTPKE-k/T0kPKOTeqmI/AAAAAAAAALc/sq7MKxVVFaU/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_field2.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ErohBTPKE-k/T0kPKOTeqmI/AAAAAAAAALc/sq7MKxVVFaU/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_field2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713114270609091170" border="0" /></a></div><br />And my personal favorite:<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z3ZyPrB2Y64/T0kPr1aq9QI/AAAAAAAAAL4/DINhZjpjr9U/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_field3.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z3ZyPrB2Y64/T0kPr1aq9QI/AAAAAAAAAL4/DINhZjpjr9U/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_field3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713114848043922690" border="0" /></a><br />Feeling warmer now? :)<div class="blogger-post-footer">by artarsenic.blogspot.com</div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640031260974702339.post-53926092542502657732012-01-19T16:51:00.005+01:002012-02-25T17:38:49.094+01:00Retro business-card boxes<div style="text-align: justify;">The last creation of 2011 I wished to publish earlier but I went for vacation to the Netherlands. Now I'm back with mind full of new ideas and I already announce a new kind of jewelry which will be presented very soon! Meanwhile - as I mentioned in my previous post - I start with Hipstamatic photography and decided to use it with my handicraft creations...<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">For the very first attempt I present the-end-of-the-year retro business-card boxes made using decoupage technique, shabby-chic and crackle. For those I used two famous classic portraits: the blue one is the portrait of Princess Marie Adelaide of France by (probably) Perronneau. The red one is the portrait of Lucretia Panciatichi by Agnolo di Cosimo (Bronzino):</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zb1X9Yk8EKo/T0kK4bN7bZI/AAAAAAAAAKM/F0JwMfxKkxo/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_51a.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zb1X9Yk8EKo/T0kK4bN7bZI/AAAAAAAAAKM/F0JwMfxKkxo/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_51a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713109566791314834" border="0" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a name='more'></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">The entire surface has been painted with black enamel paint and then varnished to the high gloss. Then it has been aged with shabby-chic technique and varnished again.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PTtj4aYQ868/T0kLnghBYwI/AAAAAAAAAKk/6Z5s0T_F9a0/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_52b.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PTtj4aYQ868/T0kLnghBYwI/AAAAAAAAAKk/6Z5s0T_F9a0/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_52b.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713110375667426050" border="0" /></a><br /></div></div></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Boxes are painted inside using rosewood stain and aged with shabby-chic technique. Both classic paintings have been printed over a regular ink office printer and preserved against any externals. Next step was rubbing porporina powder into visible cracks and preserving it all with a polyurethane glossy varnish.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FeO9ypMi_Vc/T0kLOJXBZlI/AAAAAAAAAKY/HwK8uk-d9Yc/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_51b.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FeO9ypMi_Vc/T0kLOJXBZlI/AAAAAAAAAKY/HwK8uk-d9Yc/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_51b.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713109939954738770" border="0" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yd_u_p0ZpYM/T0kLnwZoloI/AAAAAAAAAKw/NDca97flyIA/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_52a.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yd_u_p0ZpYM/T0kLnwZoloI/AAAAAAAAAKw/NDca97flyIA/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_52a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713110379931408002" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">It was a lot of work but it was definately worth it :)))</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div class="blogger-post-footer">by artarsenic.blogspot.com</div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640031260974702339.post-70875783873551298652012-01-10T16:20:00.003+01:002012-01-19T16:25:49.114+01:00After New Year changes...<div style="text-align: justify;"><i>Arsenic and old lace</i> goes <b>Hipstamatic</b> a bit!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

Of course it's Alphonse Mucha again, and a very famous picture. This time I took a pinewood box and covered it with a rosewood stain. It doesn't only look nice, it also smells like forest! Incredible specimen! I'm in love with it and it's also good to be used as a background for acrylic paint in <i>shabby chic</i> technique because it gives the aging effect. Probably I'll use it for making a nice white box with aged edges next time. Anyway my <i>art nouveau</i> reproduction is acrylic as always and looks like this:<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d20EW2wWre0/T0kJwI_xAhI/AAAAAAAAAJc/H7K7akW2R7U/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_48.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d20EW2wWre0/T0kJwI_xAhI/AAAAAAAAAJc/H7K7akW2R7U/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_48.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713108324949492242" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a name='more'></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Of course I've changed few colors from the set and painted it with a color palette I wanted. Then I covered the painting with two layers of matt varnish and two layers of glossy one.</div></div></div><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hh4ieUCNb7o/T0kJwe4ckaI/AAAAAAAAAJo/1UBm_XqAmM4/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_50.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hh4ieUCNb7o/T0kJwe4ckaI/AAAAAAAAAJo/1UBm_XqAmM4/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_50.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713108330824372642" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />I didn't make any decoration inside the box, I left it completely covered with a rosewood stain. I had a proper decoupage paper full of nice reproductions of victorian fashion drawings. I chose three of them and cut them out. I like this connection of colors: purple + white + gold - that's why I based my design on it.<br /></div><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4NQGVTydbyQ/T0kG7n6QWGI/AAAAAAAAAIU/yoEVvKQD0UI/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_39.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4NQGVTydbyQ/T0kG7n6QWGI/AAAAAAAAAIU/yoEVvKQD0UI/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_39.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713105223691556962" border="0" /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><a name='more'></a>I've made a little purple shading around ladies' figures and sticked the entire composition over the crackled surface to give a vintage look. For box's sides I used the very same pattern I used for my <i>Glamour black and white project</i>, just different color variation:<br /></div><br /></div><div align="center"><table><tbody><tr><td><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OEDckTg-y88/T0kHvtrxvOI/AAAAAAAAAIs/MHxCvSYvLyo/s1600/fiolet1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 130px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OEDckTg-y88/T0kHvtrxvOI/AAAAAAAAAIs/MHxCvSYvLyo/s400/fiolet1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713106118594641122" border="0" /></a></td><td><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PpEfjxW61Hs/T0kHkS4n28I/AAAAAAAAAIg/JJsVy6WlN-E/s1600/leaves.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 130px;;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PpEfjxW61Hs/T0kHkS4n28I/AAAAAAAAAIg/JJsVy6WlN-E/s400/leaves.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713105922422201282" border="0" /></a></td></tr></tbody></table></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Edges of the box gave been painted gold which fits to victorian ladies' dresses. That swirly pattern on sides of the lid has been made not from the first layer of my tissue (with the print on), but of the second one which has got only a delicate shade of the print visible and is very desaturated. It gives a nice contrast.</div><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kndNgUxkCRU/T0kIZCKdwLI/AAAAAAAAAI4/AvY7hqhD1kI/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_40.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 293px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kndNgUxkCRU/T0kIZCKdwLI/AAAAAAAAAI4/AvY7hqhD1kI/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_40.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713106828466700466" border="0" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tFZ5TgUo08Y/T0kIjMXJTOI/AAAAAAAAAJE/ZSn2sAxqbxA/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_41.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tFZ5TgUo08Y/T0kIjMXJTOI/AAAAAAAAAJE/ZSn2sAxqbxA/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_41.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713107003002932450" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: justify;">As usual: I've used the inner side of the lid to make a similar composition with one victorian lady which pops out from the pattern because of a subtle purple frame I painted from both sides and bottom of her. Now they can be found almost everywhere where handicraft supplies are being sold. But if you don't have your material to work with - you simply create it out of other things and do what you can. It was also the time when my father was very sick so we were visiting him in hospital often. From that days I've gotten many of those disposable shoe-pads you use in the hospital to walk around without dirtying anything. They all were made of wrapping film and put into colorful capsules you could have obtained from vending machines. I counted 23 of those capsules stored in my place and decided to do something of them. I still had some tissue scraps and other remnants, so I've created my own ball-shaped eggs ;)<br /></div><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HvX15pmXJH4/T0kB5kYE9HI/AAAAAAAAAFs/_Xe9b_vKCP4/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_43.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HvX15pmXJH4/T0kB5kYE9HI/AAAAAAAAAFs/_Xe9b_vKCP4/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_43.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713099690825020530" border="0" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a name='more'></a>I've painted them all white, then I used some country crackle to add rustic texture. As the very first project I've made a glamour black and white set for which I used one of popular motives - lace-looking tissue print. It's available in many colors but high black and white contrast seems to be the best:<br /><br /></div><div align="center"><table><tbody><tr><td><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r3OXIdXx-Zg/T0j9jP1DXBI/AAAAAAAAADQ/1Q81_pahvBA/s1600/fiolet1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r3OXIdXx-Zg/T0j9jP1DXBI/AAAAAAAAADQ/1Q81_pahvBA/s200/fiolet1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713094909305773074" border="0" /></a></td><td><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0GNf7XWVxO8/T0j9oi5zSZI/AAAAAAAAADc/NRQKYfTDqLM/s1600/1232_1a.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0GNf7XWVxO8/T0j9oi5zSZI/AAAAAAAAADc/NRQKYfTDqLM/s200/1232_1a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713095000325310866" border="0" /></a></td><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9DMO78WDJeQ/T0j9uXNmixI/AAAAAAAAADo/t1OyjakbPUQ/s1600/1230_1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9DMO78WDJeQ/T0j9uXNmixI/AAAAAAAAADo/t1OyjakbPUQ/s200/1230_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713095100266351378" border="0" /></a></td></tr><tr></tr></tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;">I chose the middle one to create something eclectic and elegant and that <i>something </i>appeared to be: two big and two small jewelry boxes, perfect for glamour or victorian monochrome sets:<br /></div><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-okDqDb2T_P0/T0j-ytCzPjI/AAAAAAAAAEA/TzOv4AgD-0U/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_25.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-okDqDb2T_P0/T0j-ytCzPjI/AAAAAAAAAEA/TzOv4AgD-0U/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_25.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713096274357730866" border="0" /></a> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a name='more'></a>It looks nice however acrylic black paint is a bit imperfect in covering the surface. I had to paint it over few times and still it doesn't give satisfying gloss effect. Next time I'm going to use black enamel paint which dries minimum 17 hours for one layer but it's beautifully glossy. It has got also a pretty big disadvantage though - the entire surface remains a bit sticky forever and it requires few layers of a good varnish to level it. Either acrylic or enamel - both have good and bad sides. Still the entire set looks glamour anyway:</div></div><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1lZ5yYla9wI/T0j_LolxYDI/AAAAAAAAAEM/IWiSTx937C0/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_24.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1lZ5yYla9wI/T0j_LolxYDI/AAAAAAAAAEM/IWiSTx937C0/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_24.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713096702658961458" border="0" /></a> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br />This set is perfect for placing over your dressing-table if you have your bedroom designed eclectic (a mix between classic and modern). It also fits to a movie-star-like bedroom. Just remember to undust it often ;)</div><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ypsd2Vghg3Q/T0j_X6R5hWI/AAAAAAAAAEY/rkaGTzjtxqQ/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_26.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ypsd2Vghg3Q/T0j_X6R5hWI/AAAAAAAAAEY/rkaGTzjtxqQ/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_26.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713096913565877602" border="0" /></a> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br />This big oval has been painted offhand, but it's surprisingly even. Big motives I sticked using steam iron and bakery release paper which is coated from one side and prevents from sticking in high temperatures. It makes the print flat and equal without any crease or fold.</div><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uSqVylTHb_k/T0j_yGuvxxI/AAAAAAAAAEk/SFcpFVNRMqE/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_27.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uSqVylTHb_k/T0j_yGuvxxI/AAAAAAAAAEk/SFcpFVNRMqE/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_27.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713097363584698130" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Almost all edges have been painted white few times using a thin brush - it makes the design more clear the box doesn't look like a big black spot. With this I went a bit to minimalism despite of eclectic approach.</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5XsoTfxK824/T0j_61z1vdI/AAAAAAAAAEw/F3_A-Q_jBs4/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_28.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5XsoTfxK824/T0j_61z1vdI/AAAAAAAAAEw/F3_A-Q_jBs4/s400/artarsenic_blogspot_com_28.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713097513661480402" border="0" /></a></div>Finally something of decoupage that doesn't look vintage or rustic :)</div><div class="blogger-post-footer">by artarsenic.blogspot.com</div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640031260974702339.post-72259805042293411982011-08-21T15:57:00.003+02:002012-03-04T20:11:12.773+01:00Art nouveau Ivy - reproduction on wood<div style="text-align: justify;">Inspired by work of Alphonse Mucha from 1901, I've sketched and then painted it on a wooden box. It was previously another cigar box made of cherry wood, about 21 x 15 cm. I've painted the <i>Ivy </i> on the lid, and I covered sides of the box with acrylic paint texture using small sponge...<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x2ehLqVnu3E/T1O9b6lGqOI/AAAAAAAAARI/h8yDJs-MLBE/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_22.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 257px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x2ehLqVnu3E/T1O9b6lGqOI/AAAAAAAAARI/h8yDJs-MLBE/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_22.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716120639342291170" border="0" /></a>Of course there's an original engraving visible under layers of my paint - it was so deeply engraved that abrading it or filling it with more paint didn't cover it completely (I also didn't have silicon mastic in my stock yet). Painted art over an item is much more beautiful. I've collected some photos of blue <i>morpho </i>butterflies and blue clematis flowers to see how did they look like in detail, where to add light and shadow and what kind of color palette should I choose. Then I took two tall jars used previously for olives, took labels off and cleaned them with alcohol to degrease them. I chose white acrylic paint used for painting furniture and covered those jars with a thick layer of it, painting them few times each half an hour. The paint covered the surface equally without smudges visible.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Then I sketched butterfies, flowers and leaves with a pencil and painted them with acrylics.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">This is the effect:</div><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dDN_SGz99jY/T1O8YLQdSWI/AAAAAAAAAQY/UF5HUNr0zeA/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_11.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 282px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dDN_SGz99jY/T1O8YLQdSWI/AAAAAAAAAQY/UF5HUNr0zeA/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_11.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716119475587991906" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a name='more'></a>I've covered my painting with a matte water varnish to protect it and prevent it from changing the color in the future...<br /><br /></div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nztfY2y96cM/T1O8YAZbKqI/AAAAAAAAAQg/0xxt1hk-9GU/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_8.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nztfY2y96cM/T1O8YAZbKqI/AAAAAAAAAQg/0xxt1hk-9GU/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_8.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716119472672811682" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: justify;">I've also added satin ribbons over each screw-thread because they didn't look nice and I wanted to cover that sign of a jar ;) Then I used few beads and a very thin silver wire to make a little decoration over each ribbon...</div><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N_9JeAEFAH4/T1O8YQbSRaI/AAAAAAAAAQw/vwxyqMqfRpc/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_9.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 256px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N_9JeAEFAH4/T1O8YQbSRaI/AAAAAAAAAQw/vwxyqMqfRpc/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_9.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716119476975584674" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: justify;">Inside jars is a lot of space for a tealight. I filled both of them with riverstones till the half of the height. I placed each tealight just over them - now it's easy to light them and lanterns are more stabile with stones inside, so they can be used in the garden. I was also thinking about making hanging versions of them and decorate a tree with them... I've enjoyed designing bookmarks a lot, so I decided to make another two of them to add to the set. Here they are:<br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-otIMMB3AFOs/T1O7wL1wcBI/AAAAAAAAAQM/rMMwjhTXRQk/s1600/arsenic%2Bbookmark%2Baddon.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 192px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-otIMMB3AFOs/T1O7wL1wcBI/AAAAAAAAAQM/rMMwjhTXRQk/s320/arsenic%2Bbookmark%2Baddon.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716118788549668882" border="0" /></a><br />I used photo references from old, damaged photos and postcards from ca. 1900-1930, authors and models are unfortunately probably dead by now. I've scanned old photos, retouched them and re-painted them using my Wacom Intuos 3 graphic tablet - the best tool with a pen to get ;) One of models of that old photos was of course a fabulous Maude Fealy (1883-1971), who firstly appeared in a silent film in 1911. It was so nice to retouch that old and damaged photo and then to paint it from a sketch to restore her beauty...<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><a name='more'></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">A second bookmark I've made today (on the right) is quite special. Someone told me that model looks like the <i>Bride of Frankenstein</i>, perhaps because of the hairstyle I've added to her ;) Anyway it fits well, so I'm not going to change it, I think ;) </div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">My collection is growing and I'm really fond of it! Well, good they improved my mood today, it wasn't the best day of my life, so I have at least something to be proud and happy about... :)</div><div class="blogger-post-footer">by artarsenic.blogspot.com</div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640031260974702339.post-10252214145693429242011-08-16T15:45:00.011+02:002012-07-25T17:54:34.309+02:00Cobalt-blue wine...<div style="text-align: justify;">
This kind of thing happens when you clean your house up :) - you always find some strange items that: <b>1.</b> you thought you've thrown away ten years ago, <b>2.</b> you kept because someday they could be found useful (they usually weren't), <b>3.</b> you forgot about them and now you're shocked you were keeping them, <b>4.</b> you forgot about them and now you're mad at yourself you had amnesia...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Long time ago someone decided to make a house-made wine here and used two nice bottles for it. I don't remember the taste of that wine or who actually was occupied with it (and who got drunk by any chance!). I've just dragged that two lovely bottles out of my cabinet. No one confesses to a crime ;)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is how one of those bottles looked like before:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WWVb7eizZNA/T0jzXkQnV-I/AAAAAAAAAB8/diZv9b-9Nko/s1600/brum.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713083713515378658" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WWVb7eizZNA/T0jzXkQnV-I/AAAAAAAAAB8/diZv9b-9Nko/s200/brum.jpg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 200px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 65px;" /></a></div>
Anyway, I started to like them instantly because of the color, a nice cobalt-blue hue. They are not a part of the set, actually they are completely different from each other in shape but the color is the same. One of them has got the sign of <i><b>Peter Brum</b></i> German Winery...<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First thing I've done was ripping entire labels off the bottles. I've done it under a stream of hot water and I treated remains with <i>salicylic spirit</i> (used normally in hospitals for disinfection). Then I've made a simple decoupage on the surface:</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4SJwg1JXcMw/T1O7OEQJWcI/AAAAAAAAAPo/sKoHLb9_lO4/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_12.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716118202397317570" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4SJwg1JXcMw/T1O7OEQJWcI/AAAAAAAAAPo/sKoHLb9_lO4/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_12.jpg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 320px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 248px;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I didn't play with cutting an interesting pattern out of a napkin, I simply used the entire napkin to cover a stripe of the bottles' surface and I sticked it with a water glue. It's easy to make it if you have some kind of a cylindrical item, you simply cover it with glue, stick a side of a napkin to it and roll it to make the entire space covered...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is the pattern-napkin I used:</div>
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n37jMB8Z-X0/T0j0MJm44PI/AAAAAAAAACI/uW2IE9O4a2s/s1600/pattern1.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713084616894111986" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n37jMB8Z-X0/T0j0MJm44PI/AAAAAAAAACI/uW2IE9O4a2s/s200/pattern1.jpg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 200px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 200px;" /></a><br />
It has also a nice navy-blue ornament, perfect for my bottles. By white background it gives a fitting contrast for the design :)<br />
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zf2P_hlofRk/T1O7OXOoYiI/AAAAAAAAAQA/trMSRUhjLtI/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_13.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716118207491236386" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zf2P_hlofRk/T1O7OXOoYiI/AAAAAAAAAQA/trMSRUhjLtI/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_13.jpg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 320px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 214px;" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My last step was adding some touch to it. I chose to make two white satin ribbons on each bottle to cover a decoupage's edge. Afterwards I've made little jewellery pieces out of some tiny blue beads and attached them to top-ribbons...</div>
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uQosJPa-68I/T1O7OA1XFZI/AAAAAAAAAP0/ASnZKxw8lFs/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_14.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716118201479665042" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uQosJPa-68I/T1O7OA1XFZI/AAAAAAAAAP0/ASnZKxw8lFs/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_14.jpg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 320px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 214px;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now it's complete and looks really sweet. Those two bottles show that it's fun to make a different decoupage, it doesn't have to be always a cutout of a flower glued to a box. Besides such a cobalt-blue decoration looks perfect in a scandinavian house, without any resemblance to <i>provençal</i> style which lots of decoupage projects have. :)</div><div class="blogger-post-footer">by artarsenic.blogspot.com</div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640031260974702339.post-78925890151161588042011-08-15T17:12:00.004+02:002012-03-04T20:15:14.814+01:00Art nouveau Dance - reproduction on wood<div style="text-align: justify;">I have a precious box which was accompanying me for years. When I left home and went to study at University, it was always with me. I kept my collection of incenses inside of it along with other useful things. When I moved through the entire Europe, it went with me and now it's still on my shelf...</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Just a dark brown ordinary wooden box: 38 cm long, 14,5 cm wide, 9,5 cm tall. It was always plain without any pattern. But I decided to give it a bit of character, which could be my simple <i>thank you</i> for the item that has never abandoned me.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I was inspired by the original painting of Alphonse Mucha's <b><i>Dance </i></b>(from <i>the Arts</i> serries, 1898). I loved the idea of it, the movement, dynamism and colors refered to flames. It was breathtaking, so I came with an idea of re-painting it, of making reproduction of it on wood using my own chosen colors...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I was painting it for seven days, next two days were meant for covering details with golden paint and another two days - for coating. In sum: eleven long days, begining with a simple pencil sketch. But I'm really proud of the ready-made product ;)<br /></div><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pekhuejvV9M/T1O5-1aXj7I/AAAAAAAAAOg/S3j476vRIMA/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_15.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 218px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pekhuejvV9M/T1O5-1aXj7I/AAAAAAAAAOg/S3j476vRIMA/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_15.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716116841203994546" border="0" /></a></div> <a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Of course my camera can't capture gold paint properly, so it will be the best to say that gold has been used in a huge ammount all over the box. Still - I didn't have any idea about sides of the box so currently they remain brown with a golden stripe at each corner.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qvxRRw_pF8M/T1O6AEyu3gI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/NeR2xtQd6zQ/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_19.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 222px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qvxRRw_pF8M/T1O6AEyu3gI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/NeR2xtQd6zQ/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_19.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716116862512586242" border="0" /></a><br />All paints used for creating this reproduction were acrylic, because for me it's really easy to mix them with dry brushes, they leave nice smudged effect all over the surface and can be beautifully set in a special colour palette. As you can see, I've changed some colors of the original Mucha's painting to my own:</div><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uTY7C7_zPHM/T1O5_fYCEAI/AAAAAAAAAO0/l1WlRQD-vco/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_17.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 260px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uTY7C7_zPHM/T1O5_fYCEAI/AAAAAAAAAO0/l1WlRQD-vco/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_17.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716116852468486146" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: justify;">That was the very first box I've painted with acrylics and I've already got addicted to it. Known as <i>Hand of Fatima</i> commemorates Prophet Muhammad's beloved daughter - Fatima Zahra. The symbol and its properties are spreaded accross the entire southern Mediterranean and Middle-East Region, they are also popularized in many parts of Europe. Of course - it's a matter of choice if you believe in a power of it or not ;) My friend beliefs, so it was important for her to acquire one.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Fortunately she allowed me to use colors I wanted to and didn't interfere with the process ;) I used some nice cobalt-blue acrylic paints for the shape and few spots I filled with golden and red paint. I must admit it was an awful block of wood full of splinters, so I had to polish and clean it a bit, still I lacked poper tools but I really did what I could...</div><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bJ7moWT0P5Y/T1O47-GnH6I/AAAAAAAAAN8/nQs2oG9yfZw/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_5.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bJ7moWT0P5Y/T1O47-GnH6I/AAAAAAAAAN8/nQs2oG9yfZw/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_5.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716115692485812130" border="0" /></a><br /><a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Of course I couldn't resist of making special cobalt-blue jewellery that fits the symbol, so I took some of my beads and created three pairs of earrings, two bracelets (Venetian glass) and also two silver bracelets with blue, white and crystal charms (<i>Pandora</i>-like):</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BlB15AzNA-Y/T1O48RaZAZI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/FBaMNty0c8Q/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_6.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BlB15AzNA-Y/T1O48RaZAZI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/FBaMNty0c8Q/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_6.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716115697669046674" border="0" /></a><br /><i>Hamsa </i>is hanging above the door of my friend's house now (hope it's doing its job well), two of those bracelets have been taken by my mother <b>on sight</b>. That's why I thought up a retro style fitting to my concept. Of course not everything I create is retro, vintage or related to <i>Fin de siècle</i> (but other ideas I'll present further in process).<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x6m6GommPog/T1O4ZbvFfyI/AAAAAAAAANw/kG0_gx5Ez5U/s1600/arsenic%2Bbookmark%2Bset.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 286px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x6m6GommPog/T1O4ZbvFfyI/AAAAAAAAANw/kG0_gx5Ez5U/s320/arsenic%2Bbookmark%2Bset.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716115099144781602" border="0" /></a></div> <a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br />Currently, let's go retro again - my own <i>Arsenic </i>bookmarks I've created. They are all based on very old and partly damaged photos from 1900-1930, that I have in postcard versions and made scans of them. Some of them present long forgotten actresses and singers from that period of time (Maude Fealy for example), some of them are just model postcards made by unknown photographers...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />I've scanned all postcards I had, retouched and re-painted them in <i>Gimp</i>, using brushes I've created previously. They started a new life as big <i>3000 x 3000 pixels</i> square arts I cropped later to a bookmark size. At the very bottom I've placed the name of the blog and url I'll use in future. It took me two days to finish it. They for sure will be used in another creations.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /><!--more--></div><div style="text-align: justify;">They all have an equal size of a big bookmark: <i>21 cm x 5 cm</i> and I want to have them printed on coated paper with density about 300g/m<span style="font-size:x-small;">2</span> or even more. They will be a perfect addition to jewellery, boxes and other things ;)<br /><br />I enjoyed creating them so much I decided to make few more in the nearest future. Effects will be published here :) </div><div class="blogger-post-footer">by artarsenic.blogspot.com</div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640031260974702339.post-84586438314583653472011-08-14T14:32:00.009+02:002012-03-04T20:12:48.344+01:00Finally... My very first humble presentation<div style="text-align: justify;">It's been a long time since I'd got an idea of making this blog. I've actually abandoned it for a long time being occupied by my job (graphic design), family life (my husband and my alaskan malamute ;)) and also another passion I'm infected with: computer games (currently: <i>Lord of the Rings Online</i>). Suddenly I remembered about my blog and made a huge facepalm ;) - this is me, a completely chaotic, absent-minded person! Finally I attempt to publish something of my creations and I start modestly, with a romantic vintage decoupaged jewellery box:<br /></div><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KOmqbMFylao/T1O33NeVXvI/AAAAAAAAANU/anlUrC--9-k/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_3.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KOmqbMFylao/T1O33NeVXvI/AAAAAAAAANU/anlUrC--9-k/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716114511200870130" border="0" /></a><a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">It was my father's-in-law Dutch cigar box previously, but I stole it ;) - of course I told him about it later and he was surprised what could have been done out of it, so it was a precious compliment to me. Anyway, I didn't want to paint it inside, so I left it as it was before decoupage...<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w41Ao2Nrn8o/T1O325OH72I/AAAAAAAAANI/7alOnTMFW-w/s1600/artarsenic_blogspot_com_2.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w41Ao2Nrn8o/T1O325OH72I/AAAAAAAAANI/7alOnTMFW-w/s320/artarsenic_blogspot_com_2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716114505764171618" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.nellis.itime.pl/blog/artarsenicblogspotcom2.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" src="http://www.nellis.itime.pl/blog/.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">It fits nicely to my beloved items and to one of my favorite books by Olga Tokarczuk (Polish exquisite writer). I use everything I have in my drawer then - just like here I've used an old napkin with rose-pattern. I've made a decoupage of it, used some acrylic pastel-like paints and then I used my favorite crackle specimen (crackle classic step 1 and 2) to age it a bit, filled appearing cracks with brown-pink porporino powder, and after 48 hours I covered it with a glossy polyurethane varnish... I like the look ;)</div><div class="blogger-post-footer">by artarsenic.blogspot.com</div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com2
