Autumn Art Nouveau painted box

Friday, December 9, 2011
For the turn of seasons I've painted the reproduction of another art nouveau litograph. Of course it's Alphonse Mucha again, and a very famous picture. This time I took a pinewood box and covered it with a rosewood stain. It doesn't only look nice, it also smells like forest! Incredible specimen! I'm in love with it and it's also good to be used as a background for acrylic paint in shabby chic technique because it gives the aging effect. Probably I'll use it for making a nice white box with aged edges next time. Anyway my art nouveau reproduction is acrylic as always and looks like this:

Of course I've changed few colors from the set and painted it with a color palette I wanted. Then I covered the painting with two layers of matt varnish and two layers of glossy one.

I didn't make any decoration inside the box, I left it completely covered with a rosewood stain. It's so nice to take the box, open it and smell the trees :)

It's been designed as a jewelry box and I think it will serve its purpose.
One more shot of the entire painting:

Perhaps it's a bit short description today, but forgive me - since few days I have a cold and try to recover, so tonight I'm going to use my free time fully with a cup of hot Earl Grey, warm blanket and some books of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle. This is what I call the perfect evening! :)
